Red Sauce Eatery serves truly authentic Italian dishes located in the trendy Chattanooga North Shore District. Red Sauce is filling in a missing piece of the Chattanooga restaurant scene by offering true Italian dishes the way they are suppose to be prepared. I am somewhat of an expert in this category considering I grew up part of a large Italian family hailing from New Jersey. I became so excited about Red Sauce knowing that masterful dishes from my past are now as close as the North Shore.
Nothing says Italian eatery like Old Blue Eyes ( Frank Sinatra) playing through the dining room. Classic red and white checkered tablecloths capturing the old familiar feel of Italian restaurants of my past. Dining on the patio that has been converted to an inside space by adding clear plastic patio enclosures making the space warm and comfortable. Red Sauce picked an excellent location opening in the trendy North Shore District of Chattanooga, TN. I would describe the atmosphere of Red Sauce as small town feel meets big time gourmet.
It’s not often that I leave a restaurant and cannot stop raving about their meatballs. Yes you read this correctly… MEATBALLS. As a child every Sunday our family would go to my Nani’s house for her famous meatballs. Since her passing, I have been unable to find a recipe that even comes close to hers until now. Eating at Red Sauce took me back to those days where food represented love. Amore !
The menu included classic Italian fare along with some chef created specialty options. We visited for lunch and I was a little shocked to see that spaghetti & meatballs were not a part of the lunch menu. In my opinion, this should be their signature item. Our waitress Katrina was lovely and went to the chef making a special request. Katrina and the chef went out of their way to cook my requested dish. I have reached out to Red Sauce recently and was advised that since our visit all meatball options will be on the lunch menu daily. The sauce was absolutely divine with a light sweet taste. The meatballs were homemade masterpieces perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of garlic, browned on the outside with a tender moist interior. Meraviglioso !
Steve ordered the chef’s daily special fettuccine alfredo paired with fried chicken and broccoli. This was another spectacular dish. I have a feeling that you just couldn’t go wrong ordering anything off the menu. Lunch was served with incredibly fresh salad and bread. The bread was served hot and fresh with olive oil for dipping. I knew there was something extra special about the olive oil so I asked Katrina. Turns out it is infused with white wine. It all made sense after this discovery. It had a hint of sweetness that I found delicious. Delizioso !
The perfect ending to this phenomenal dining experience was dessert. So many delectable sweet treats to choose from, but for me the classic Italian staple – the cannoli- was just what I had been craving. I often find that cannoli’s purchased in the South do not taste anything like those I am used to as a Northerner. Not the case with Red Sauce Eatery. I found the pastry to be sweet but not overdone. The creamy interior set off by an ample amount of chocolate chips made this recipe to die for. Fenomenale !
What has Kathy Brown found out this week?
It’s funny how something as insignificant as a meatball can conjure up cherished memories of the past. Food is often tied to so many memories we hold so dear. Growing up in a family where food is truly an expression of love, I found my dining experience at Red Sauce to be more than just a meal. In these authentic Italian dishes I found traditions that still exist, like an old friend inviting you to dine. I don’t know the owners, the chef or anyone relating to this establishment, but what their food gave me was a window into my past. Dolci Ricordi !
