The Gaylord Opryland Nashville, TN doesn’t do anything small. An escape like none other, this 2,888 room facility can boast as the largest resort in Tennessee. Broken up into four main areas: The Delta, The Cascades, The Garden Conservatory and The Magnolia allows you to explore all day and still find something new even days later. You will definitely want to have a map with you on your journeys. I also loved that the hotel has information booths to help ensure none of the attractions are missed. Steve and I were graciously hosted for the weekend. We had visited Opryland a few times before, but to really get the true majesty of The Gaylord Opryland Hotel, I recommend staying for a long weekend. Lucky for us we stayed during the holiday season where we were able to rejoice in the brilliance of three million Christmas lights.
Our room was an elegant atrium room with a balcony overlooking the Cascades section of the resort. Steve and I had brought along a bottle of wine that we enjoyed while sitting on the balcony overlooking the magnificent gardens below. A country Christmas made the view extra special with thousands of twinkling lights to bring in the holiday spirit. Large and spacious rooms with comfortable beds make for a romantic experience. Tastefully decorated with southern charm that gives you the feeling of comfort after a high energy day exploring the surroundings. Several room options are available at various price ranges, but if you can splurge, I recommend accommodations overlooking the brilliance below.
Winding pathways leading you through lush gardens of meticulously placed flowers put your spirit in a place of peace and tranquilly. The sound of rushing water from brilliant waterfalls abound will amaze your senses. Bridges and hidden coves will keep you wondering if you could ever see all The Gaylord Opryland has to offer. A walkway in The Gardens Conservatory high above the action gives you a birds eye view of all the sights and sounds below. Wear comfortable shoes since there is a lot of walking and stairs that guide you through this magical experience.
The Gaylord Opryland Resort has kept family in mind ensuring there is a special emphasis on entertainment and children’s activities. Steve and I wished that we would have taken our grandchildren with us on this excursion, knowing that they would have had a wonderful time. I had to smile at the faces of young children that danced aside a large fountain that was perfectly in tune with Christmas music both modern and traditional. A dazzling light show that highlighted the fountains as they reach up to the metal and glass ceiling that expands over the expansive atrium. During our visit several family activities were available as an add on to your getaway. I have listed some of the activities that were available during our stay. When you arrive at the resort ask for a program to see what will be available during your stay.

Music is a key highlight with a getaway to Opryland. After all, you will be in Nashville… home of country music. The Gaylord Opryland embraces the country music spirit throughout the grounds. Talented country music singers made for an exciting atmosphere at its’ many bars. No need to worry about finding a good cocktail here, since bars are situated throughout the complex. Need some time to relax and rejuvenate? The Relache Spa has lavish spa options to help make your stay even more romantic. This resort is a high energy experience with a lot of sites and sounds abound. We found our stay to be fun and exciting, but my one regret is that we did not utilize the spa. There is a lot to explore and fun activities, but my feet and back could have used some pampering too.
ICE A Charlie Brown Christmas:
Every year during the Christmas holiday season, The Gaylord Opryland Resort displays it’s signature ice presentation. This year’s theme was all about a holiday classic tradition… A Charlie Brown Christmas. Dazzling ice sculptures carved from two million pounds of ice truly bring you into the holiday spirit. My inner child came to life the minute I walked into the magnificent display. For me the highlight was a carved ice slide that both children and adults could enjoy. It almost seemed impossible for such an exhibit to exist in Tennessee, but The Gaylord Opryland Resort seems to make the impossible a reality. Don’t worry about bringing a coat along because the hotel provides heavy warm jackets for everyone to ensure your comfort in the 9 degree showroom. Maybe next time I will bring some gloves though… If your travels bring you here during the holiday season this is one experience that is a must do.
So what did Kathy Brown find on her getaway to Gaylord Opryland? I found that sometimes you need to put yourself in a place that gives you the holiday spirit. With all the rushing around, holiday shopping and planning we can sometimes lose the true meaning of Christmas. There is something very magical about The Gaylord Opryland Resort in the way it makes you feel. You can’t help but feel blessed to be in this place. This is the reason I believe that Christmas is the perfect time to visit The Gaylord Opryland Resort. The smiles on the children’s faces, the lavish light displays and the music of Christmas have a way of evoking feelings of true joy.
In the spirit of full disclosure: I was provided media accommodations and tickets to the ICE display. I only write about destinations I love and this is my honest review. If I could not recommend this resort I simply would not write about them.
