Finding the perfect tie for your man is not as easy as it sounds. Professional men take exceptional pride in the ties they choose to buy. It’s a personal buying experience much like the way women feel about their purses or shoes.
My husband wears a tie everyday and is the one distinguishing factor that changes his look. I always refer to his suit and tie as his uniform. Though I must say he looks quite handsome when he is leaving for work in the morning. Lets face it ladies there’s something very sexy about a man in a suit.
Walking into a department store and being thrust into the men’s department where there are literally a hundred ties to choose from can be quite overwhelming. Here are some things I found to be extremely important when purchasing a tie for your man,
- Know What He’s Got Already. Take some time going through his current inventory of ties. I’m sure Steve has a hundred already though I’m sure he doesn’t wear them all. I seem to see the same ties from week to week. You certainly don’t want to spend money on a variation of one he already owns.
- Know His Style. If were up to me I am sure I would buy him a bright color pattern maybe even pink. That certainly is not his style and the tie I purchased would never be worn. He may do it once just to show his appreciation, but highly doubt it would make it out of his closet often. Steve is a conservative traditional man. Usually wearing a lot of muted colors and stripes. Now your man may be more adventurist in his color choices, so in that case a conservative color pallet may not be to his liking.
- What Color Suits Does He Own. After all you want the tie to accent what he already has. You want the tie to stand out and make a statement, not just blend in making it unnoticeable. It should also be noted that the color shirts he usually wears will be extremely important.
I finally decided on the perfect one. Todays shopping experience led me to purchase a Tommy Hilfiger tie at Belk. The great news is I found it with a 50% discount. Hopefully he will love it!!
