Looking for some family fun? Follow the rooftop painted signs to Rock City, located in Lookout Mountain, GA. Rock City features rock lined pathways leading you through mazes of natural beauty. Gaze up through wondrous rock formations as high as the heavens. Feel adventurous walking through caverns created by nature, but in the safety of a family friendly environment. Be in awe as you reach the top of the summit to view the beauty of the valley along with seven states. Smile at the little added features along the way including lots of silly, dare I say somewhat creepy, gnomes.
Steve and I took our Grandchildren Vinny & Gabby this past weekend to see Rock City for the first time. Sheer amazement gleamed from their smiling faces as we explored and created lifelong memories.
A true highlight for us became a rock formation known as Fat Man’s Squeeze. If you are at all claustrophobic, this may be a path worth the bypass. Since none of us have a fear of tight spaces it was actually quite exhilarating and fun. Keep walking as the path between these two giant mountain stones get smaller and smaller. I quick glimpse up shows the narrow stream of light that peaks through from the skies above.
We happened to visit Rock City during Fairytale Nights. Vinny and Gabby were so excited meeting all their favorite fairytale characters including Cinderella. Be sure to check Rock City’s website for upcoming weekend themes, such as: Summer Blooms, Earth Days & my personal favorite The Enchanted Garden of Lights.
Twists and turns throughout Rock City keep you wondering what will be next to discover around each corner. We spent a full two hours navigating our way to the centerpiece that has a view of the valley below. When we visited the grounds were fairly quiet, so we felt fortunate to be able to explore without the large crowds. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, since there is a good amount of walking and stairs. The rock structures along with an abundance of trees helps to provide just the right amount of shade.
The grand finale happens at the top of Lookout Mountain where an incredible view of the valley below and a towering waterfall await. The American Flags flying along the cliffs and a true radiant view gave me a sense of pride. This is where I lead into what I found on this trip. Kathy Brown found that true beauty can be found all across America. I love that I get to share my travels with my husband Steve and now with my Grandchildren.
Happy Travels… XOXO Kathy Brown
