Every once in a while I am reminded of the resilience and goodness we as human beings possess. I was reminded of this recently after a visit to a restaurant in Jacksonville Florida. V Pizza is where I learned of a charity called V for Victory. The owners of this establishment truly embody the grace and kindness of everyday Americans.
Imagine that you have a normal life with it’s occasional ups and downs. Your day starts the same, getting ready for work, completing the daily grind and kissing your children to sleep at night. Now imagine that all of a sudden your three year old son has difficulties walking. You are concerned so you take your child to the doctor. Then the unimaginable happens and your child is diagnosed with Cancer. This is the story of Paul Scott (one of the owners of V Pizza) and his son Charlie.
Out of this tragedy and heartbreak V for Victory was born. While Paul supports Charlie through his treatments, he also sees a need that was going unfulfilled. Just because you have a child with cancer that doesn’t mean the world around you stops. You still need make meals, clean the house, walk the dog or pick up your dry cleaning. Paul, along with his business partners, became passionate about helping others. Last month the owners of – V Pizza- Donated 52 meals to the Ronald McDonald house. Paul has pledged to continue this trend and has even brought his caring staff on board.
V for Victory is now expanding and looking for other small business owners in the Jacksonville area for help. Small business owners are the lifeblood in any community, your friends and next door neighbors. Goal oriented, Passionate and Driven are the known traits of any successful business owner. They have to be all these things in order to be successful. V for Victory is not asking for money just a small gesture of help once a month to a family in need. Please read below if you can find it in your heart to help…

If you’re a follower of my blog you will know that this article is a step outside the norm for me. My writings are normally about travel, food and my own personal experiences. After hearing this story and speaking to Paul I just felt compelled to write about it. When I spoke with Paul he spoke in such a hopeful – Passionate manner. I can’t remember the last time I spoke to someone with such a propose driven life. The kind of man that has seen heartbreak, but has come out on the other side with a drive to help others and change peoples lives. I truly hope I have done V for Victory justice with my writing and pray that if you can help – you will.
If you or someone you know is a business owner in the Jacksonville area, please check into this charity. Please visit V for Victory’s Facebook page for more information and updates on Charlie’s battle.
