There are many reasons why you might want to consider Vermont as your vacation destination.  Some of the best reasons include the natural beauty, outdoor activities, fantastic dining, historical architecture, and Vermont’s unique culture.  In today’s blog post, I’ll be featuring the freedom and unity state that is Vermont, USA.

Outdoor Activities: A great place for outdoor enthusiasts, with activities such as skiing, snowboarding, hiking, biking, fishing, kayaking, and more.

Delicious Food: Famous for its farm-to-table food culture, with plenty of delicious local cuisine to try. You can find everything from artisanal cheeses and maple syrup to craft beer and cider.

Historic Architecture: Vermont has a rich history, with many well-preserved historic towns and buildings. You can explore charming small towns like Woodstock and Stowe, or visit historic sites like the Bennington Battle Monument.

Unique Culture:  A distinct culture that is worth experiencing. You can attend a maple syrup festival, watch a traditional cheese-making demonstration, or even try your hand at traditional crafts like pottery and weaving.

Most travelers to Vermont will do so on a Northeastern road trip. For tourists deciding to book a flight to Vermont, here are your best options. Burlington International Airport is the most convenient option for most travelers, but it can also be the most expensive. Rutland-Southern Vermont Regional Airport and Northeast Kingdom International Airport are both good options for budget-minded travelers, but they may not have as many flight options as BTV.

Burlington, Vermont, is the state’s largest city and sits on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain.  Burlington, VT is known for its fun downtown, Church Street Marketplace, a pedestrian-only street lined with shops and restaurants, Outdoor enthusiasts will love Burlington’s its proximity to outdoor activities like hiking, biking, and skiing.

Stowe, VT is this adorable town nestled right at the foot of Mount Mansfield, Vermont’s highest peak.  In the winter, the mountains around Stowe are all about skiing.   Stowe keeps the outdoor fun going all year. You can hit the trails for hiking, go mountain biking, or even take on some kayaking. Loads of adventures to be had!

Continuing with the best travel destinations in Vermont let’s check out Woodstock, VT.   Important to note, that this is not the same Woodstock known for a famous music festival.  Woodstock is a historic town full of beautiful architecture, art galleries, and museums. Visitors can take a walk along the town green. Other popular activities in Woodstock include visiting the Billings Farm and Museum.  For those driving I highly recommend going on a scenic drive through the surrounding countryside.

No list of the top destinations in Vermont would be complete without mentioning Lake Champlain Islands.  This group of islands in the middle of Lake Champlain is a beautiful destination for scenic drives, hiking, biking, and water sports. Include on your travel itinerary a ferry ride or visit the historic lighthouses.

Dotted with over 80 islands, each with its own character, Lake Champlain beckons for exploration. Visit Grand Isle for its vineyards and orchards, hike the trails of Valcour Island, or discover the birdlife haven of North Hero Island.

Venture into southern Vermont, and you’ll stumble upon the fascinating town of Bennington. It’s like a history buff’s dream with Revolutionary War battlefields, charming covered bridges, and a downtown that’s practically a living time capsule.  Dive into the past at the Bennington Museum or rev up the excitement with a scenic drive to the majestic Mount Equinox. Bennington isn’t just a town; it’s a journey through time and stunning landscapes waiting to be explored! Bennington’s Main Street is a living time capsule, lined with 18th and 19th-century buildings that whisper tales of bygone eras. Browse antique shops, savor a meal in a cozy cafe, or simply soak in the town’s nostalgic atmosphere.

Manchester is a real-life postcard town that’s got more than meets the eye. If you’re into shopping, cool art scenes, and charming historic inns, this place has your name written all over it.  Check out the Hildene Estate, the digs of Abraham Lincoln’s son, for a history fix, or lace up your hiking boots and hit the trails at Equinox Preserve.  Manchester is not just a town; it’s a perfect blend of sophistication and outdoor adventures waiting for you to explore. 

Killington, Vermont is a ski resort town known for its challenging slopes and world-class skiing.  One of the most popular travel destinations for skiing, Vermont draws big crowds in the wintertime. If your ski boots crave a challenge, and your heart beats for adrenaline, look no further than Killington Resort, perched atop Vermont’s second-highest peak. 

Found along the serene shores of Lake Champlain, this quaint little town is not your average hideaway. It’s the proud home of the Shelburne Museum, a treasure trove of history, art, and all things fascinating. Wander through a quirky collection of historic buildings, immerse yourself in captivating artworks, and marvel at intriguing artifacts—it’s a journey through time like no other. And if that’s not enough to pique your interest, make your way to the nearby Shelburne Farms. It’s not just any farm; it’s a working masterpiece with a jaw-dropping mansion and gardens that redefine farm chic.

There are so many cool spots to check out in Vermont. It’s got this beautiful scenery, a charming history, and plenty of outdoor things to do. If you’re itching to get away from the craziness of city life, Vermont’s the place to be.
