Spotlight on Local Talent Chattanooga Family Photographer - Millicent Garland
One of the great things about being a blogger is having the opportunity to work with other amazing women in business. This is especially true when that happens in my home city of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Today’s post is a continuation of posts showcasing talented women in business. I worked with Millicent on several occasions, most recently as part of a larger collaboration with a fashion brand. I have also hired her for brand photos and website images.
My experience with Millicent Garland photography has been wonderful. She is so easy to work with, made me feel extremly comfortable and provided me expert direction to get the best shots. If she can do all this for a 55 year old woman like myself, image what image what she can do for you.

Introducing Millicent Garland
A Glimpse into Millicent's World
What brought you to become a professional photographer?
Even as a teenager, I was always “the one with the camera”. However, it was during my son’s senior year in high school that I bought my first professional camera to capture all the events of his senior year. I did his senior photos, and his friends’ parents soon asked me to take their children’s photos. Hence, Millicent Garland Photography was born!
Any challenges you faced along the way?
Faced a few challenges along the way. The biggest challenge has been expanding my customer base. Social media is an excellent tool, but it requires an ongoing effort to keep your name in front of the right potential clients.
How do clients find you and book a photoshoot? Contact info?
I have business pages on Facebook and Instagram. They are both entitled Millicent Garland Photography. I also have a website at www.millicentgarland.com. You can reach me at 423-598-1898 for bookings, or message me through FB and IG. You can also book through my website.
What are some suggestions for your clients in the makings of a successful shoot? Tips from a professional.
There are several factors that the client should be aware of for a successful shoot.
First, the time of day is important. Early mornings or late evenings (known as the Golden hours) typically make for the best shots.
Secondly, bring more than one outfit, and don’t be afraid to wear colors that “pop”.
Relax. Try to be yourself and don’t worry about looking silly. The playful pics often make for the best photos.
Accessories can make a big difference. Bring hats, fancy shoes, sunglasses etc.
Trust your photographer. It’s her job to make suggestions such as poses, locations, etc. based on her experience.
Finally, have fun!
What do you love most about photography?
For me, it’s the most gratifying feeling in the world to know that you can stop time for just an instant, with each click of the shutter. When editing my photos, I love that this photo of a loved one may be treasured for generations to come.
