What's Behind the Bookcase at the Kinley Hotel Chattanooga?
Chattanooga is home to a few hidden speakeasies, including Unknown Caller, Goodfellas on King, and The Read House Hotel.
Today, I’m going to tell you about the newest speakeasy in town, located behind a bookcase at the Kinley Hotel.
What is a Speakeasy?
A speakeasy is a bar that illegally sells alcoholic beverages. They became popular during Prohibition (1920-1933) when the sale of alcohol was banned in the United States.
Other Hidden Speakeasies in Chattanooga
In addition to the Kinley Hotel, there are a few other hidden speakeasies in Chattanooga.
Unknown Caller is located in a former bank vault, and The Read House Hotel has a speakeasy located to the left of the main lobby bar.
Goodfellas Pizza also has a speakeasy in the basement, but I haven’t been there yet.
How to Find the Kinley Hotel Speakeasy
The Kinley Hotel is located at 1409 Market Street in Chattanooga.
To find the speakeasy, look for the bookcase with neon arrows pointing to it in the lobby.
Often the door is open, just pull and enter.
If the hidden door is locked, ask for the key at the front desk. Finally, enjoy a night of Prohibition-era cocktails in a hidden speakeasy.
Important Travel Tip: The Kinley Company Speakeasy is a hotspot for dining. Seating is limited. Friday and Saturday nights almost always require advanced reservations that can be made on Opentable. The official name of this restaurant and bar is Company Speakeasy.
