Hey everyone!

Have you ever heard of the Road to Nowhere? It’s this amazing route in Bryson City, North Carolina, that’s full of stunning scenery, fascinating history, and a touch of mystery. It’s a hidden gem that not everyone knows about, but it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re ever in the area.

A Road with a Past

The Road to Nowhere was originally supposed to be a scenic drive along the shores of Fontana Lake. But for reasons that are still being debated, it was never completed. Now, it’s a six-mile stretch of road that ends abruptly at a tunnel.

I know what you’re thinking: “Why would I want to visit a road that doesn’t even go anywhere?” Well, let me tell you, there are plenty of reasons!

The Road to Nowhere is a 6-mile dirt road that leads to a dead end at a tunnel. The trail is moderately difficult and can be muddy in wet weather.

To get to the trailhead from Chattanooga, take I-24 E to Exit 172 for US-74 E. Follow US-74 E for 20 miles to Bryson City. Turn right onto Main St and follow it for 0.5 miles. Turn left onto Everett St and follow it for 0.2 miles. Turn right onto Lakeview Dr E and follow it for 2.5 miles to the trailhead.

Exploring the Tunnel

The tunnel itself is a pretty cool place to check out. It’s about 1,200 feet long and pitch black inside. But don’t worry, you can bring a flashlight to see your way around. The walls are covered in graffiti art, which adds to the overall mystique of the place.

At the end of the tunnel, you’ll find a network of hiking trails. The Lakeshore Trail is a great option if you’re looking for an easy walk with stunning views of Fontana Lake.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, you can try the Goldmine Loop Trail, which takes you through a forest and past some old abandoned homesteads.
