Travel time from my hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee via US 76 is 3 hours.  Atlanta, Georgia – 3 hour drive, Asheville, NC 1 hour drive and Greenville, NC 2 hours.  Bryson City is known for being near the west entrance to the Smoky Mountains National Park, outdoor activities on the Nantahala River and Great Smoky Mountain Railroad.

This unique museum is a self-guided tour at 117 Island Street, next door to the Appalachian River Aquarium.  Both exhibits would be of interest to fishermen and my husband.  Not so much me, but I can go shopping downtown.

Deep Creek is a popular place to fish.  Hikers will also enjoy several loop hikes that lead to beautiful waterfalls.  Mountain bikers will take advantage of one of the few areas where bikes are permitted.
