The great thing about journaling is it can be anything you want it to be.  I look at it as a hybrid of the diary we kept as children.  The purpose of a journal is to capture your thoughts and feelings on paper.  Its purpose is personal growth.

There are no rules or right/wrong ways to journal – it’s all about individual expression. I encourage you to find your unique style, whether it’s through writing, drawing, using prompts, or bullet points.

Getting Started: Setting the Mood

Create a calm and comfortable environment for journaling.  Try setting aside dedicated time each day or week to write in your journal.  I often find inspiration from nature, music, or even a cozy corner at home.

Start with a blank piece of paper and start writing.  Blank pages over time become a habit.  Each step in the daily journaling process help us to gain clarity.

However, they all share a common thread – the power to transform our lives and bring positivity into our daily experiences. By incorporating these practices into our routine, we can cultivate a mindset of appreciation and manifest our dreams with greater clarity. 

 

Let’s start with travel. My Favorite! Exploring new destinations not only broadens our horizons but also allows us to gain a deeper understanding of different cultures, traditions, and perspectives. Using a journaling practice can be about writing experiences on the road and in new destinations. Entries can be about yourself or people you met along the way. 

 

The gratitude journaling practice can profoundly impact our well-being and overall happiness. Taking time each day to express gratitude for even the smallest things in life can shift our focus from what is lacking to what is abundant. 

 

Vision boards serve as powerful tools for manifestation by keeping us focused on what truly matters while inspiring action toward achieving those goals. Vision boards can also be used as an art journal to display personal works of art. 

 

Dream journals provide an outlet for capturing ideas that emerge during sleep or moments of introspection throughout the day. There are benefits of reflection by regularly revisiting past entries. I have often thrown away pages of my journal that no longer hold power over me.  Destroying old journal posts can be a freeing experience in itself.  Showing the power of moving forward and no longer holding on to negative experiences.  The journaling habit is one of positive growth, meaning not all entries are meant to last a lifetime.

Life has lots of expensive habits and wellness products that sell the dream of instant happiness. ( writing in a journal is not instant – be in it for the future gains)  Creating gratitude or any other form of writing should not be one.  Any paper and writing utensils will do.  For those who would like something more organized and pretty, there are several very affordable options and I will link some below.

How I Started Consciousness Writing

Wondering why I wrote this article today and didn’t keep it in a secret journal entry.  Many years ago during a difficult time in my life, I began to start journaling.

As my journal entries grew, so did my confidence and gratitude for life.  I could see a vast improvement in my mental health.

The journal prompts soon became articles that I would then use to create this blog. Finding Kathy Brown is my gratitude journal, mixed with my travel vision boards published for all to see.
