Based on the information provided by the Coastal Georgia Historical Society – The Saint Simons Lighthouse structure dates back to 1872. Thou this current lighthouse was not the original version.
The first lighthouse on St. Simons, Georgia was destroyed by the Glynn Guards Infantry ensuring it not fall into the hands of the Union Navy.
In 1975, The Coastal Georgia Historical Society restored the lighthouse and innkeepers’ quarters turning into a historic museum.
