Ross’s Landing is one of the most recognizable places in Downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee.  For those who live in the area or those visiting on vacation, Ross’s Landing is a must-visit.  Ross’s Landing holds special meaning to me since it is also the place Steve proposed to me 13 years ago.  We both found this location overlooking the Tennesse River and Downtown to be very romantic.

Ross Landing Chattanooga is also a significant historical site for the Cherokee Indian tribe forced from their lands. This riverfront Chattanooga park memorializes the Trail of Tears historical Chattanooga site and is now a cultural tourist stop.

Tourists and locals visit Ross’s Landing for open art-filled spaces and a travel-friendly atmosphere.  Landing Park offers green spaces and is often the site of community events.

For those looking for family fun in the summertime, the landing is also where guests can access The Passage.  The Passage is a popular summer attraction for families and children. Here a waterfall staircase marks the passage American Indians took along the Trail of Tears.  Today the stairs are a cascade of water that children play.

Chattanooga local travel blogger Kathy Brown is taking in the views from Ross's Landing in downtown. Kathy is wearing a white dress and sandals. Behind the concrete stairs hangs local art and the backside of the TN aquarium.

Where is Ross's Landing Located?

Address: 201 Riverfront Parkway Chattanooga, TN 37407

Street-metered parking and lots are available in the area of the Landing.  Those planning a Chattanooga trip will find the location is near most other downtown attractions.

The area is very popular with locals, but also very visible to tourists since it can be seen easily from the Walnut Street Bridge.

Why Visit Ross's Landing in Chattanooga?

Most people will visit Ross’s Landing for special events, music, and entertainment.  The large grassy area and concrete landings make this a great spot for festivals and community events.  Most are free events too.

The landing on the Tennessee River is popular for river sporting events, such as Iron Man and rowing.  Spectators find this a great place to take in the fun.

Steve and I have also found this area to be very peaceful and yes romantic.  During the day we feel safe in the area and like the views of the bridges nearby.

For tourists traveling with children and families, Ross’s Landing is a good spot to enter “The Passage.”  The Passage is a popular spot in the Summer.

For those not familiar with The Passage, it was created as a way of honoring the tragic Trail of Tears.  Now it is the site of massive waterfall stairs that descend from the Tennessee Aquarium above.

Kids and adults love playing on these stairs in the summertime and this attraction is always free.

If you are looking for an Instagramable moment while visiting Chattanooga this is a wonderful place.

Frequently Asked Questions - Ross's Landing

Is Ross’s Landing Free?

Answer: Yes, Ross’s Landing is free, unless a special event is being held in the area.  This area along the riverfront is sometimes closed off for festivals and music events.  However, Ross’s Landing does play host to several free live music events and activities throughout the year.  Be sure to check online before planning your visit to Chattanooga’s downtown.

Are Pets Allowed Along The Riverfront at Ross’s Landing?

Answer: Yes Pets are allowed but need to be leashed and cleaned up after.

When is the Waterfall Staircase Open:?

The Passage is open during warm/hot weather months.  Unfortunately, I find the waterfalls to be not very predictable.  I have often taken the Grandkids down only to find the steps are not flowing.  Either way, it’s still a nice place to visit.
