Las Vegas Travel Tips For The Over 50 Tourist.

Hello again friends.  Steve and I  just got back from a wild weekend in Las Vegas or at least wild by my over 50 mind. That being said, I have some awesome tips for your trip to maintain comfort and have a great time in Vegas.

It’s the perfect mix of chill and excitement for the older traveler.

Nightlife on the Las Vegas Strip featuring the iconic Planet Hollywood and Paris Casino, aglow in a sea of dazzling lights. A lively scene capturing the essence of Sin City's energy after dark.

1. Navigating the Strip with Ease - A Step in the Right Shoes:

Steve and I logged an amazing 20,000 steps a day while we vacationed in Las Vegas, Nevada.  It’s also important to note that Vegas is notorious for broken escalators on the strip.

This highlights the importance of wearing sensible shoes.  Go for comfortable but stylish fashion choices.

My go-to comfort and fashion is always rocking my adidas sneakers.

Forget what you’ve seen in commercials and leave those stilettos at home.  Not even the twenty-year-olds are rocking uncomfortable shoes on the strip.

Final Takeaway: Senior-friendly footwear for navigating the Las Vegas Strip is a must!  Consider a great pair of fashion-forward sneakers for your Las Vegas vacation.

2. Timing is Everything when it comes to a Vegas Getaway.

Weekdays in Las Vegas are a hidden gem. Hotel rates are often lower, restaurants are less crowded, and you’ll have a better chance of snagging tickets to popular shows without the weekend rush.

Our Vegas Vacation lasted from Wednesday to Sunday.  I could see a noticeable difference in crowd size as the vacation progressed.

Steve and I, like most older travelers, prefer a less chaotic Vegas experience.  Peak seasons in Las Vegas, Nevada are Spring and Fall.  Summers are brutally hot, so we typically visit Sin City in the Winter months.

Take-Away: Mid-week Winter is the Best time to visit Las Vegas for seniors

3. Planning for Strategic Vegas Hotel Choices

Choosing accommodations slightly off the Strip can provide a more relaxed stay while still maintaining easy access to the excitement.

Consider exploring areas like Downtown Las Vegas or slightly off the main drag. This not only allows for quieter evenings but also provides a chance to discover local gems that might be overlooked on the crowded Strip.

On our most recent Vegas vacation, we booked a room at the budget-friendly Linq Hotel.

Was the Linq the most luxurious hotel? No? But the room was clean, the bed was comfortable and staff was friendly.

What made this a great place to stay for us older tourists was location, access to the monorail system and the prominade has wonderful dining and entertainment options.

Travel Tip: Consider Freemont Street, Promenade, or monorail stop hotels and resorts.

4. Show Selection For The Wise

Opt for shows with earlier time slots. Choosing the best show times ensures a more leisurely evening but also often allows for better seating options.

Las Vegas offers a dazzling array of entertainment options. Matinee shows or those scheduled in the early evening are perfect.  We discovered it’s a  great way to experience the city’s renowned entertainment scene before our 9 pm bedtime.

One exception to this rule is the brand-new MSG sphere.  Plan an early visit for the must-see Postcards From Earth. But stay up late to see a concert here.

Steve, myself, and my sister had tickets to see U2, and wow what an event!  Like no concert I have ever seen amazing!

Overall Entertainment Wrap-up:  Top Vegas shows for mature audiences can be found during earlier performances.  Don’t miss a show at the MSG Sphere for a splurge concert or budget-friendly Postcards from Earth.

5. Las Vegas Dining Delights for Discerning Tastes

I’m old enough to remember the $9.95 all-you-can-eat Vegas buffets.  Let me tell you, those days are gone.

Dare I say, Las Vegas has become extremely expensive when it comes to dining.  If it’s been a while since you last visited, you will want to plan your budget accordingly.

Venture beyond the Strip to discover off-strip eateries, providing a taste of local flavor and a more intimate dining experience.

While the Strip boasts world-renowned dining establishments, don’t miss the chance to explore the culinary scene off the beaten path. Local favorites often offer a more authentic experience, and you might find hidden gems with fewer crowds and reasonable prices.

Wrap-Up- The best restaurants in Las Vegas for mature travelers can be found but take much more planning.   Gone are the affordable buffets and specials from years past.

6. Healthy Hedonism

Las Vegas is not only about glitz and glamour but also offers numerous opportunities for relaxation.

After a night of excitement, consider unwinding with a spa treatment or a session at the hotel’s fitness center.

Spa days are a perfect way to ensure well-being amid the city’s exciting things to do.

Remember Las Vegas is a Desert vacation and the climate is dry.  Be sure to drink lots of water throughout the day and balance adult beverages with plenty of H2O.

Reminders: Wellness tips for seniors in Las Vegas include lots for water, plan for downtime and selfcare.

7. Gambling Wisely

The advice I wish I would have followed.

The thrill of Las Vegas includes trying your luck at the casinos. However, it’s crucial to approach gambling with a budget in mind. Penny slots are a fantastic option for entertainment without the risk of substantial losses.

Set a limit, enjoy the games, and savor the atmosphere without worrying about breaking the bank.

I came home with $5 in my purse.  Don’t be me!

Set a budget and stick to it; try out the penny slots for entertainment without risking significant financial losses.

Older casinos typically offer lower table limits of $5 or $10.

Travel Tip: Senior-friendly gambling tips in Vegas include setting a budget, playing the penny slots, and looking at smaller casinos for lower table limits.

8. Capture The Moments in Las Vegas, NV

Las Vegas provides some amazing photos, and capturing memories is a must.

While snapping photos of iconic landmarks and displays, it’s essential to be mindful, especially in crowded areas.

Stay aware, keep your belongings secure, and ensure that your focus on creating lasting memories doesn’t compromise your safety.

Wrap-up: Photography tips for seniors in Las Vegas include being aware.  As in any big city, crime and thefts are up among unsuspecting tourists.

Armed with these insightful tips, whether you’re a seasoned Vegas visitor or a first-timer, your Sin City escapade is bound to be a perfect blend of excitement and relaxation. As the saying goes, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas – except for the incredible memories you’ll carry with you. Until the next adventure, happy travels
